Seeking Loyal Partner for Off-Leash Dating...

Updated: Sep 7

There is a unique paradox that comes with financial sovereignty. While this may not be true for all - often the higher you climb, the smaller your trusted circle becomes. For many of my most successful, affluent clients, the ultimate luxury isn’t a piece of real estate or a curated asset. It is absolute, unquestionable loyalty - the kind of authentic loyalty that can’t be bought.
So, what happens when we marry affluence with ‘suddenly single’?
Speaking to the Dog-Lovers in All of Us…
Historically, dogs have symbolized the kind of loyalty we are often seeking in relationship. Shifting our lens a bit to how that relationship unfolds can offer some important clues on how to attract 'our person' and how to show up in that kind of symbiotic engagement.
We all want to know that our partner will be there for us ‘for better or worse’ even when we are accustomed to sailing in fair weather. This is a very human quality.
When we invite a dog into our world, we know they will be there for us in fair or stormy weather. We are seeking a loyal companion – one that may or may not meet our expectations and come with other surprising rewards and short-comings.
Some of us may be seeking a watch dog, someone to protect us when we do not feel safe. We might have our eye on a lap dog, who lives to snuggle, or perhaps we have been dreaming of a dog that makes us look better than we think we are inside.
It is increasingly common for people to choose dogs as emotional support animals, rescue dogs, or pups who are chosen solely for their pedigree.
We all have our own unique reasons. None of these choices are wrong but when expectations and personality part ways, often we do as well. After a number of questionable experiences with our canine friends, we either give up altogether or become an expert at vetting our options.
While most of us might just move on and make that choice, our drive for human connection never seems that emotionally straight forward. We all know we can live without a dog, but fewer of us would be willing to give up our tethers to a lifetime of being single.
Now, take a moment to reflect on a past relationship. What were you looking for before you fell in love with your expectations? When did you begin feeling tethered or considering the need for a leash?
I have spent over two decades coaching high-performing singles and couples through the intersection of sovereignty and connection and can comfortably say, constant vigilance, expert vetting practices, and building an impeccable fortress is a sure way to create a life of subtle, comfortable isolation – even inside an active public lifestyle.
We look for loyalty on a leash because we have learned to look at other humans through a lens that cautions us to keep our walls up.
Now, before you decide that a dog provides the perfect emotional loop for a highly vetted life, a profound shift happens when we realize that our pets can accidentally become our emotional shields.
They offer unconditional devotion, zero hidden agendas, and often a sense of absolute safety. Ideal for dating, right?
While they don't care about our net worth, our status, or our public profile, true relational sovereignty isn't about building thicker walls or retreating into a comfortable, independent orbit.
It is about healing our heart, relaxing our hypervigilance, and learning how authentic faith-bonds are created over time - so we can welcome another human being into a loyalty that cannot be bought, will not be tethered, and does not require us to wear the mask of independence.
Your dog isn’t meant to be your boundary. Our canine sidekick is here to show us what safe love feels like, so we can finally recognize it, command it, and receive it in each other.
